Mandala is a Sanskrit term meaning sacred circle, or completion. The mandala is of Hindu origin, and is also used in other traditions, such as Buddhism, Christianity and Native American spirituality. In our workshops, we use the mandala as a meditative focus which helps us turn inward to explore, and express, the true nature of our experience.
As a spiritual practice, mandala can be used to establish a sacred space and as an aid to deepening a meditation practice. The act of creating them can be very healing, as one taps into healing energies inherent in all of us. The Psychologist Carl Jung viewed the mandala as "a representation of the unconscious self." He personally found that painting mandalas helped him to identify emotional wounds and to move toward individuation, or wholeness, in the personality.
In individual or group sessions, participants learn simple techniques to make unique mandalas, which open the healing energies of the body-mind. Using techniques developed by Judith Cornell, Ph.D., you experience the inner journey and the outward unfolding of the creative process, which consists of emanation, dissolution, absorption, and again emanation.
Each workshop is stand-alone. No art experience is necessary. Please feel free to take one, or all four.
